Jameela Jamil Shares Cellulite Pic And A Loving Message About Body Positivity

Jameela Jamil is truly our body positive queen

It can be tough to love yourself as a woman. All around us, we see and hear influences telling us about all the ways we aren’t good enough. You know the ones: The commercials telling us we need to buy new makeup and skincare products to look young forever. The social media influencer with extensions telling us perfect hair is the key to happiness. The airbrushed magazine ads that make us think we could be as happy as those models look — if we just lost enough weight to look like them.

The thing is, those influences are lying to us. None of them are true, and in order to love ourselves, we have to learn to tune them out. Thank God for Jameela Jamil, because she is our guiding voice as we work to love our bodies and ourselves in a world that’s working so hard to make us hate them.

Jamil has been all over social media talking about self love and body positivity, and in her most recent post, she tackles cellulite. While most of us pose for pictures only from angles that hide those bumpy parts of our thighs and butts, Jamil posted a photo to her Instagram that puts hers on full display. That’s right — cellulite, front and center. Not only is she not hiding it, but she’s actually celebrating it. What?

“Even the bits you were told were ‘wrong.’ They aren’t wrong, they’re fucking normal. They’re human. Thank your body today. It’s your friend. Whether or not fashion and film told you it is,” she wrote in the caption. She then added this empowering new name for cellulite: “These are my babe-bumps.”

Excuse me while I head to the bathroom mirror for a minute to check out my own “babe-bumps” through new eyes. I came to terms with mine a long time ago, but have I ever celebrated it? Nope. Is that going to change now that Jameela Jamil is being her inspiring queen self and changing how I see my “flaws”? Maybe.

This is pretty much just what Jameela Jamil does. Previously, she’s feuded with celebrities like Khloe Kardashian who sell diet products on social media, accusing them of feeding fat-phobia and diet culture, and challenging them to be better role models for their followers.

She also started the “I weigh” movement on Instagram, which encourages women to stop thinking about their worth in terms of a number on a scale, and instead focus on their talents and good qualities — you know, the things about them that actually do make them valuable.

Jameela Jamil is on a mission to make us stop hating our bodies, to stop comparing ourselves to unattainable standards of beauty and to just love and accept ourselves the way we are, which is perfect, trust. Every time she posts something new, we love ourselves — and her — a little more.
